Glasgow Life is a charity like no other. Our vision is to improve the lives of everyone in our city. We’re looking for Pool Lifeguards to join our Sport Operations team. You don’t need a lifeguard qualification to apply (unless you want to join the bank team), as we provide training for competent swimmers.

Base Pay Range & Hours

Permanent Hours

  • Full Time – 35 hours per week, worked over 5 days out of 7. Weekday shifts can start as early as 5:45 am and finish as late as 10:30 pm; weekend shifts run between 8 am and 8 pm. Rotas usually follow a three‑week cycle.
  • Part Time – Several options: 7 or 10 hours per week over the weekend, or 15 or 20 hours per week across evenings and weekends. Rotas usually follow a two‑week rotation.
  • Bank – Work on an as‑needed basis, ideal if you need flexibility. (Available only for qualified lifeguards).

Pay Details: Full‑time salary £24,371.18, pro‑rata for part‑time. Hourly rate £13.35.

Location: City‑wide. Main base discussed ls are Bellahouston, Scotstoun, Tollcross, Gorbals, North Woodside, Pollok, Drumchapel, Springburn, Easterhouse, Maryhill, and Castlemilk.

What You’ll Do

As a Pool Lifeguard you’ll be part of an established team, reporting to the Duty Manager. You’ll ensure the safety of all swimmers and visitors, deliver excellent customer service, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Responsibilities include supervising the pool and changing areas, responding to emergencies, assisting with activities and events, supporting reception duties, managing bookings, answering enquiries, and welcoming customers.

You will also help with venue routines, opening and closing procedures, and complete all required training. Your work will have a visible and lasting difference in supporting our communities.

Who You Are

Qualifications & Skills
  • Hold a current Pool Lifeguard qualification (e.g., STA, NPLQ) or be willing to attend a scheduled STA Pool Lifeguard qualification course.
  • Confident and competent swimmers able to complete a Pool Lifeguard swim test, including jump/dive into deep water, swim 100 m front/back without stopping, swim 50 m under 1 min, surface dive to deepest part to recover a mannequin, tread water 30 s, and climb out unaided.
  • Willing and able to attend regular training to maintain qualification.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; experience working with the public.
  • Team player.
  • Able to set up equipment and facilities for customer use.
  • Prioritise safety, providing a secure, safe, welcoming environment.
  • Proficient literacy and numeracy skills.

Training options for those needing qualification: a six‑day weekday course or a three‑weekend course, 8:30 am–4:30 pm. Expected in March or April; must commit to one of the two options.
