Street Maintenance Worker II

An employee working in this position maintains all rigid and flexible pavements and structures within the City boundaries utilizing a variety of heavy equipment and pavement maintenance specific machinery, in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the City of Goodyear, State of Arizona and the Federal government.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-focused team member with at least two years of hands-on experience applying crack seal or performing similar roadway construction or maintenance work. This individual understands temporary traffic control principles and can help establish and maintain work zones per MUTCD guidelines.

• Relevant experience: At least two years of experience applying crack seal or completing comparable roadway construction, pavement preservation, or street-maintenance work.
• Traffic-control knowledge: Working knowledge of MUTCD requirements and temporary traffic control practices, including the proper placement, inspection, adjustment, and removal of signs, cones, barricades, and other devices.
• Safety commitment: Consistently follows safe work practices, uses required personal protective equipment, identifies hazards, and takes prompt action to protect team members and road users.
• Team orientation: Communicates clearly, follows direction, supports coworkers, and contributes reliably in a fast-paced outdoor work environment.
• Equipment readiness: Demonstrates the ability and willingness to safely operate vehicles, tools, and equipment used in crack-sealing and roadway-maintenance operations.
• Dependability: Reports to work prepared and on time, adapts to changing field conditions, and maintains attention to detail throughout each assignment.
• Preferred license: A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.

• Maintains roadways by filling potholes, sealing cracks, setting up detailed and complex traffic control systems according to the MUTCD and Phoenix barricade manual, and operating a variety of heavy equipment such as the backhoe, compaction roller, gannon tractor and three ton roller. Operates jackhammers and pneumatic compacting equipment. Operates a 4-yard or 6-yard dump truck and self-contained patch truck. Operates air compressors, hydraulic tools and other similarly sized maintenance equipment.
