Position Description Position Summary
  • The employee works four ten‑hour shifts per week, standard hours 6 am–4 pm, scheduled every other weekend (Fri‑Mon).
  • Responsibilities include security patrols (vehicle and on foot), responding to medical and emergency calls, opening administrative and academic buildings, providing safe‑ride services, enforcing university conduct policies, conducting criminal investigations, engaging with faculty, staff and students, and interacting with the community in a Christ‑like manner.
Education
  • Required:

    High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred:
    Associate or Bachelor’s degree
Experience
  • Required:

    One year in safety and security services or emergency services, prior experience in a higher education setting.
  • Preferred:
    • 2 years law enforcement/security experience
    • 2 years emergency services experience
    • First Aid/CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed certifications
    • 1 year customer‑service related field
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel

Special Working Conditions

Must have the ability to mentally and physically perform essential job functions requiring walking, prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting (40 lbs), dragging 150 lbs 10 ft or more, and enduring various weather conditions. Willingness to work different shifts, weekends, holidays; some mandatory overtime for special events. Must submit to Hepatitis B immunization or provide documentation. This essential position requires reporting to work as scheduled by supervisor during emergency closures or delays regardless of weather.

Driving

Requirements

This position requires the operation of a Messiah University owned or leased vehicle; employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures in the University’s Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.

Essential Employee Duties
  • Patrol campus via vehicle, bike, or on foot
  • Provide physical security services for university facilities
  • Act as a resource to students, employees, and campus visitors
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of parking and permit regulations and enforce as necessary
  • Conduct active traffic management to ensure compliance with PA vehicle code
  • Respond to, investigate, and document crimes reported to the department occurring on campus property
  • Direct traffic during large campus events
  • Respond to and assume operational control of campus emergencies to ensure safety; be first responder for medical calls
  • Conduct safety escorts for campus community members
  • Act as liaison with outside law enforcement and community organizations
  • Conduct safety & security awareness trainings for students and employees
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
Secondary Duties
  • Testify at PA Court of Common Pleas, District Justice and campus judiciary/administrative hearings
  • Perform dispatch services as needed due to campus needs
  • Conduct and assist in the execution of fire drills
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
