As an Outreach Support Volunteer, you will play a pivotal role within the local community promoting our services and engaging with our service users/individuals/rough sleepers and partner agencies. Your role will be to support the team to engage and support individuals who are experiencing homelessness and have multiple needs/substance misuse. You will be responding to referrals, targeting known locations within the community actively engaging and building a positive relationship with people who are rough sleeping/experiencing problems with substance misuse.
As part of a team, you will be working with partner agencies, signposting individuals, empowering and assisting them to access relevant services. Advocating for them and supporting them to achieve their goals and make positive changes as well as managing expectations of all involved. Outreach can be fast paced and challenging role so you will need to be responsive and adaptable with the ability to work quickly and effectively.
This role can involve working anti‑social hours and at times in adverse weather conditions carrying essential provisions such as food paperwork so you will need to be flexible and resilient. No two days are the same and you can really make a difference in helping to keep people safe. You will be provided with all the skills, training and support to undertake the role.
Supporting rough sleepers is really rewarding and you can make a real difference to somebody's life. This is the perfect role for a sociable and outgoing person who wants to help their community. You will be supporting the team to re‑engage clients when they have dropped out of treatment, advising them of the services available and offering them the knowledge and advice to enable them to keep themselves safe.
You will also be assisting the staff to undertake home visits and engage with those who are unable to attend our services.
- Create a welcoming environment within our hubs, taking telephone calls and referrals.
- As part of a team target known areas to assertively engage with rough sleepers/service users and respond to referrals where appropriate
- Build positive relationships with rough sleepers working with them 1.2.1 empowering them to achieve their goals
- Carry necessary supplies such as food, paperwork and other provisions>
- Attend outreach centres, community venues and satellite services to engage and support service users/rough sleepers
- Work closely with partner agencies and the community including attend meetings where appropriate
- Support rough sleepers/service user by signposting and advocating for them to access support, being a central person between them and other services
- To ensure that you are aware of and follow the outreach risk assessment/risk management plan that's are in place
- Keep records of your contacts
- Alongside staff identify ways to remove barriers and find solutions to help engage rough sleepers/ service users.
- Offer and provide overdose awareness information/ naloxone kit
- Provide confidential, easily accessible, non-judgmental advice around substance misuse, safer injecting overdose and what to do in an emergency
- Work with staff to identify service users who have disengaged from services.
- Conduct home visits to engage service users.
