We are currently seeking a skilled Traffic Regulation Officer for a contract position. This crucial role supports local and national traffic regulation initiatives to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessing the feasibility of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) following Council and Government legislation and guidance
  • Drafting and developing TROs under the Road Traffic Regulation Act (RTRA) 1984
  • Collaborating with Legal Services to ensure TROs are sealed and evaluated post-implementation
  • Preparing reports for the NELC Executive
  • Providing expert advice to internal colleagues and external partners on TROs
  • Organising and overseeing the implementation of TROs on site
  • Staying informed on legislation, national guidance, and industry best practices regarding TRO processes
  • Supporting the Traffic & Road Safety Co-ordinator in responding to communications from Councillors, MPs, and the public
  • Maintaining relevant software systems to manage the D-TRO process for the Council
  • Auditing site work and producing reports to assess the validity of TROs
  • Working flexibly to manage potentially conflicting priorities
  • Undertaking other duties as reasonably expected at this level
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in traffic regulation and highways management
  • Strong understanding of the Road Traffic Regulation Act (RTRA) 1984
  • Ability to draft and develop TROs effectively
  • Excellent collaboration skills for working with legal services and external partners
  • Proficiency in preparing clear and comprehensive reports
  • Knowledge of current legislation, national guidelines, and industry best practices
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently
  • Familiarity with software systems used for managing TRO processes
