Responsibilities
As the Cost Accountant in this role in Guelph, your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing, maintaining, and reviewing standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all product lines.
- Conducting detailed variance analysis on a monthly and ad-hoc basis, specifically investigating and reporting on material usage, purchase price, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption variances.
- Collaborating closely with the Production, Engineering, and Procurement teams to gather operational data, understand changes in manufacturing processes, and ensure the accuracy of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production routings.
- Managing all aspects of inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, reserve calculations (e.g., obsolescence/slow-moving inventory), and the accurate costing of Work-in-Progress (WIP) and Finished Goods.
- Supporting the finance team with the month-end and year-end close processes related to Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and inventory balances.
- Preparing and analyzing gross margin reports by product, customer, and production run to advise management on pricing, profitability, and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic financial forecasts for manufacturing costs and operational spending.
- Performing ongoing review and enhancement of cost accounting systems and processes within the ERP system to improve efficiency and data integrity.
- Ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards as they pertain to inventory valuation and cost accounting principles.

Qualifications
We are looking for the following for this Cost Accountant role located in Guelph:
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience across all aspects of the function
- A bachelor’s degree in either business administration or accounting.
- Strong experience working in manufacturing is required.
- Advanced Excel skills are required (Macro scripting, Vlookups, Pivot Tables, etc).
