Position: Psychiatrist - Older Adult Assessment & Stabilization Service (OASIS)
Position Summary
A full-time opportunity for a Psychiatrist in our Geropsychiatric OASIS Service, starting immediately. This position is within our Regional Services.
This program is delivered on-site at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, in a collaborative manner, with a supportive interdisciplinary team, which includes nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy and horticulture therapy. In this role, you will be responsible for clinical psychiatric care of patients as they engage in their recovery journey.

What you’ll be doing:
Clinically responsible for assigned patients including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, referral, daily care, and discharge.Clinical care includes diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, medication management, referral to the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT, rTMS, Ketamine infusion) when appropriate, as well as the interdisciplinary team for individual support, return to work planning, and psychotherapeutic interventionsProvide ongoing supervision and management of clinical/patient care including daily rounds and sufficient individual assessments with the patient to ensure ongoing standards of patient care are metCollaborate with other physicians, nursing staff and allied health professionals in providing optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary teamComplete documentation including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes and finally, a comprehensive discharge summary of the highest quality to ensure the medical record is meaningful and useful and a treatment plan can be established by the teamUtilize electronic medical platforms such as Caseworks and BDM (training provided)Provide clinical guidance to the program and to the admitting department for appropriate and timely referrals and admissionsEnsure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintainedSupport colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences (with NP support)Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely mannerAbility to provide ECT treatment to patients at the Homewood Health Centre once per month is an assetLiaison with third party referrers as needed for continuity of care (VAC, WSIB)What we are looking for:
A Psychiatrist specializing in Geriatrics, certified from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS) (C) or equivalent body acceptable to the RCPS (C) and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of OntarioExperience with diagnosis and management of, complex geropsychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferredInterest to work with complex and comorbid disorders as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient careAdept at creating an environment that supports team spirit and collaboration across the organizationInspire others to be accountable through action, decisions and/or communicationStrong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients, patients, customers and families.Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis and complex problem solving skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsHighly developed organizational and time-management skillsDemonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospitalAs part of our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community from COVID-19, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Health Centre requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
