ESGO Subspecialty Fellowship – Gynaecological Oncology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a sub-specialist training post in Gynaecological Oncology(GO) Surgery at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust Hospital (RSFTH) s is a stand‑alone post entirely based at RSFTH for 1 year fixed term contract starting in May 2026, with the possible extension to 2
-3 years depending on progression in training as per the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO), Gynae-oncology sub‑specialty training curriculum.

The primary purpose of this ESGO approved sub‑specialty training post is to provide a comprehensive higher training in Gynaecological Oncology according to the current ESGO syllabus TH is the regional Cancer Centre for Surrey, West Sussex, and North Hants. The GO programme have gained independent accreditation from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology following reviews and currently have been accredited for 2 further rounds of GO sub‑specialty training.

The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust Hospital, Gynae‑oncology department's sub‑specialty training programme (SSTP), was last reviewed and accredited by the ESGO Training committee in October 2024 for a period of 5 years.

Main duties of the job

This post, which is fully funded by the department, allows the subspecialty trainee to benefit from working in Guildford, the largest and most comprehensive Gynaecological Cancer Centre within Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) deanery. In Guildford, there is a proven track record of close collaboration with the neighbouring centres in Maidstone and Brighton with cases referred to Guildford from these and other centres for certain specialist services including: robotic surgery, radical trachelectomy, ovarian transposition prior to pelvic radiotherapy, radical ovarian cancer debulking surgery including those requiring liver and upper abdominal

Job responsibilities

The post at the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust Hospital in Guildford is designed to offer comprehensive clinical training in gynaecology oncology in a progressive modern department working within a well‑established and functional multi‑disciplinary team, including training in robotics, laparoscopy, open and vaginal/ vulval surgery and ambulatory diagnostic techniques. The Trainee will also gain practical experience in all allied disciplines such as medical and clinical oncology including chemotherapy, brachytherapy and IMRT, diagnostic and interventional radiology, histopathology, and cytology, colorectal, HPB and plastic surgery, palliative medicine, medical management, medical applications of IT, clinical governance, and leadership skills.
