CNC Machinist –
Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL)

Machining of composite and metallic structures and components for spacecraft systems and subsystems.

• Work within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaise closely with the Design Office to deliver high‑quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
• Manufacture high precision composite (carbon and metallic) components using 3‑ and 5‑axis CNC milling machines.
• Perform CNC off‑line programming using Autodesk Power Mill and Feature
  
  CAM CAD/CAM software tools.
• Liaise with project engineers and other engineering teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are met.
• Attend engineering peer reviews to ensure design‑for‑manufacture methodology is observed.
• Attend regular team meetings.
• Occasionally operate manual machining operations.
• Perform other activities as delegated by the manufacturing team leader.

• City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or a recognised apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
• Good educational background.

• Ideally from a machining or similar background.
• Experience of machining components in a high‑precision, high‑value, low‑volume environment, ideally aerospace.
• Experience with CNC off‑line programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature
  
  CAM CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential; training will be provided.

• Flexible and enthusiastic with a can‑do approach.
• Problem solver.
• Capable of working from engineering drawings and Solid Works models to high standards and close tolerances; attention to detail is essential.
• Good communication skills in a small team.
