Job Description:We are seeking an intermediate-level structural engineer to join our Halifax team located at 380 Bedford Highway. You will play a pivotal role in our structural engineering group with responsibilities as follows:
- General: be a driving force in engineering projects, guide them from inception to successful completion both individually and as a key part of a team of high-performing engineers and technical staff.
- Design: work on the design of a wide range of steel, concrete, masonry and timber buildings, bridges, marine structures and other structures for our institutional, commercial and industrial clients. Develop innovative solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Create and check engineered drawings, specifications, cost estimates and reports. Ensure that all work is accurate and conforms with all applicable codes and standards.
Travel to jobsites to gather design data, take measurements and inspect work performed by contractors. Occasional overnight travel will be required. - Structural Analysis and Assessment: perform structural analysis & modeling of new and existing structures. Investigate existing structures and prepare condition assessment reports.
- Project Management: ensure projects are executed on time and within budget, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders to deliver high-quality results.
- Collaboration: Contribute positively to the day-to-day office environment and culture at Tri Mac Engineering. Promote the brand and corporate image of Tri Mac Engineering in outward-facing dealings with clients, consultants, contractors, associations, etc. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Technical Expertise and Training: Stay current with industry trends, code and standards. Identify and participate in industry-relevant training & continuing education opportunities and relevant committees & associations.
- Business Development: Promote the brand, corporate image and values of Tri Mac Engineering in outward-facing dealings with clients, consultants, contractors, associations, etc. Develop engineering fee proposals for projects with returning and new clients.
- Registered P.Eng. with Engineers Nova Scotia.
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree in civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering from an accredited university.
- 5+ years of structural engineering technical work experience and project management experience including development of design packages for construction.
- Required technical experience: design of reinforced concrete, timber, masonry and structural steel buildings. Additional experience in marine structures, water control structures, bridges, etc. is an asset.
- Proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of relevant safety, building and fire codes and regulations.
- Class 5 driver’s license and use of own vehicle; some travel required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, pro-active, detail-oriented, with strong organization skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to successfully lead a multidiscipline team in executing projects under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Knowledge and proficiency in using structural design software such as RISA, STAAD Pro, S-Frame, or other similar structural design software suites.
