The Traffic Engineering team owns affirm’s critical routing and network infrastructure to run the core product. Our customers are affirm users and other engineering teams. We build and expose simple interfaces of online infrastructure components such as CDN edge routing, RPC layer, and gateway artifacts.

What You’ll Do

Lead engineering teams responsible for Edge Traffic Infrastructure, ensuring the networking architecture remains resilient to affirm’s growing needs.

Define and deliver a vision, strategy, and roadmap on a year-long timescale for ingress and egress points of our system, tying that roadmap to business impact.

Collaborate across infrastructure, security, and other engineering teams to build reliable, secure, and scalable networking infrastructure for external partners and internal teams.

Improve key metrics for availability, performance, and resiliency.

Take ownership of your team’s operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, testing, and alerting to support on‑call efforts.

Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and advocating them beyond the team.

Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, leading by example.

What We Look For

7+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years leading teams focused on infrastructure, networking, compute, or distributed systems.

Proven track record in stakeholder management, ownership, and successful delivery.

Expertise managing large‑scale, geographically distributed cloud infrastructure systems centered on compute, networking, or databases.

Expertise scaling networking infrastructure like CDN, load balancers, or API gateways; familiarity with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and vendors (Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai).

Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality with a technical and execution plan; writes high‑quality code.

Thrives in ambiguity and comfortable moving from low‑level language idioms to large‑system architecture.

Growth and impact trajectory shows mastery of gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross‑functional peers.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with the global engineering team.

Compensation
Pay Grade 9, Equity Grade 7. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits. Pay range: $178,000 – $228,000 per year.
