  • Salary starts at $67,133.28 - $ per year as per the Agreement between the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Halifax Regional Police Association. Salary to commensurate with experience.

    Key Information to Consider:
  • All new hires will commence in our patrol division
  • We accept applications from currently serving police officers or Canadian Military Police (regular service) with Qualifications Level 3
  • According to Halifax Regional Police policy guidelines, an experienced police officer refers to:

    Current serving police officers in Canada, or Canadian Military Police (regular service) with Qualifications Level 3, or Applicants who successfully completed an approved Police Recruit Training Program
  • Hours of work include shift work (days, nights, weekends, and holidays). A typical shift is 12-hours. Depending on operational requirements, flexibility around scheduling is required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Grade 12 education
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Canadian police training program
  • Have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted and have no criminal charges pending before the courts.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license or equivalent from another Canadian province
  • HOW TO APPLY:

  • SELECTION PROCESS:
    1. Screening - All applications will be reviewed. You’ll advance to the second stage of the process if your application demonstrates that you meet the application criteria.

    2. Cognitive ability test - Candidates will have a pre-determined time frame to complete a cognitive ability test. There are many resources online and in print to help prepare for the cognitive ability test.

    3. Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) - You must complete the PARE within four minutes—the minimum standard for experienced police officers. It’s important to complete the PARE as quickly as possible, as not all candidates who meet minimum standard will proceed to the next stage.
