About the Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders opportunity
Dalhousie University invites applications from outstanding early career researchers based outside Canada to express interest in the Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program. This national initiative supports the recruitment of internationally recognized scholars in the early stages of their careers who are poised to accelerate research excellence, translation and partnership building in one of Canada’s strategic priority areas.
The program provides $100,000 dollars per year over six years to help institutions recruit and launch the research programs of exceptional early career researchers, with the possibility of a further six-year extension based on evidence of transformational research, partnership development and career progression.
The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders submission process requires application to Dalhousie University (see details below) by January 19, 2026.

Impact+ Strategic priorities
Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders are awarded in areas identified by the Government of Canada as critical to global and national challenges. These priorities closely parallel Dalhousie’s own research priorities and strengths and are reflected in the university’s . Applications must demonstrate how the proposed program will advance one or more of the following strategic priority areas:
Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders are expected to build meaningful partnerships across sectors and with Indigenous communities, and to ensure that research outcomes translate into practice, policy or commercialization pathways with measurable societal and economic benefit.
Qualifications and Eligibility
The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program is intended for outstanding early career researchers who are prepared to establish and advance an independent research program in Canada. To be eligible, candidates must:

Canada Impact+ Research Chairs
While not necessary to qualify for a Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders role, applicants are encouraged to identify senior collaborators or mentors applying for the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs program whom they hope to work with. To hire a Impact+ Emerging Leader, Dalhousie must first secure a Canada Impact+ Research Chairs in a complementary research area.

Canada Research Chairs
Candidates residing in Canada and internationally will be considered for Canada Research Chairs, offering $200,000 per year for seven years at Tier 1 and $120,000 per year for five years at Tier 2, supporting ambitious, globally competitive research programs.
