Senior Underwriter, Financial Lines
Join AIG as a Senior Underwriter in Financial Lines and contribute to transforming our risk management model. This role underwrites assigned risks under general direction with greater authority, handling large accounts and complex risks.
Responsibilities- Rapidly evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions for underwriting.
- Demonstrate technical underwriting skills through strategic, thorough account reviews and file documentation.
- Exercise judgment, negotiate, and make sound business decisions based on level of authority.
- Render alternative outcomes for difficult situations and make real‑time decisions in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.
- Use appropriate underwriting tools and disciplines to ensure guidelines are followed.
- Understand fundamentals of loss trends, loss triangles, and rate making.
- Assist management with profit center initiatives and provide technical underwriting support on projects.
- Assist regional manager and product leaders in developing broker relationships and establishing new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with Distribution, Territory Managers, and other business line underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross‑sell opportunities.
- Work with management, brokers, clients, and outside counsel on deal structure, contract terms, and conditions on complex risks.
- Participate in underwriting and marketing initiatives to improve company results and drive portfolio strategies.
- Develop strong, long‑term relationships with brokers and clients to grow a profitable book of business.
- Represent AIG at client and broker functions with supervision as necessary.
- Mentor, train, and develop less experienced staff.
- Participate in special underwriting projects as needed.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients (internal & external).
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant professional experience; commercial insurance experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
- Advanced knowledge of the US Financial Lines business (D&O, EPL, PTL, Cyber, Fidelity) including product features, forms, regulatory environment, and risks.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and rapid learning skills with adaptability to change.
- Excellent judgment, negotiation, and decision‑making skills at the required authority level.
- Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship‑building experience.
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues.
- Comfort with analytical tools and technology.
