The Opportunity

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer to join our teams at our offices in Alberta, Ontario and Atlantic Canada
. As an Intermediate Process Engineer
, you will begin to plan and complete work without supervision, including checking calculations and assisting in training of more junior engineers. You will be part of our growing team, using your engineering skills to design facilities across Canada and globally.

What you can expect to do here

You’ll be using your expertise to collaborate with different disciplines at WSP and provide technical deliverables on projects. Under the guidance of a more senior process engineer, day-to-day activities include:

  • Conduct process simulations using appropriate software to optimize system performance and efficiency, including modeling and predicting process behaviors.
  • Determine appropriate equipment sizes based on process requirements; prepare data sheets detailing specifications and requirements.
  • Calculate optimal sizes for process lines, considering flow rate, pressure drop, and temperature.
  • Prepare data sheets for instruments used in the process, including specifications, operating conditions, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to represent material flow, equipment, conditions, and flow rates.
  • Update Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect changes in the process or equipment.
  • Conduct studies to understand and improve the process, analyze data, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Review vendor drawings to ensure they meet process requirements, checking dimensions, materials, and design details.
  • Support larger projects and client assignments, assisting Area Lead to complete tasks as needed.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry as a process engineer; gas processing plant experience preferred
  • P.Eng licensed with APEGA
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in an intermediate role
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • Organized, with a focus on quality, schedule, and budget
