Main duties of the job- Provide a nurse‑led endoscopy service, performing OGDs, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, including independent diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
- Be a highly experienced practitioner with expert knowledge and skills in the field of endoscopy services.
- Promote a high standard of care to ensure the best patient experience.
- Be responsible for undertaking clinical examination, a comprehensive clinical history, ordering relevant patient investigations and interpreting where appropriate and managing patient care within professional competence.
- Be responsible for diagnosing and discussing the findings of examinations with patients and planning appropriate management.
- Undertake all clinical correspondence for patients under own care.
- Demonstrate extended knowledge in obtaining informed consent in line with Government, RCN, BSG and GMC Guidelines, providing patients with advantages, risks and disadvantages and other diagnostic options.
- Undertake role as a Non‑Medical Prescriber, meeting all trust and national requirements for safe practice.
- Administer and be accountable for giving sedation, recognising and reporting any adverse reactions and administering appropriate reversals if required.

The post holder will work independently as an expert practitioner, exercising advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision‑making in the clinical area. They will provide expert clinical skills and advice, demonstrate a sound understanding of identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the client group, monitor and lead improvements to standards of care through supervision, teaching and supporting professional colleagues, and provide skilled professional leadership.
As a member of the multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) they will give specialist advice on management of patients as delegated by the consultant team, lead the implementation of relevant research into practice, contribute to clinical governance through audit and research, and be an integral part of the training and education of other endoscopists.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Keen knowledge of lower and upper gastrointestinal and colorectal disease
- Non‑medical Prescribing qualification
- Evidence of ability to manage difficult clinical situations as an independent endoscopist
- Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
- Demonstrated knowledge of the speciality including JAG and BSG guidelines
- Previous experience as a nurse endoscopist
- Demonstrated involvement in PGDs, guidelines and protocols
