Qualified Dispenser

About the Role

Wickhambrook Surgery is looking to welcome into our busy practice a qualified dispenser who will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi‑disciplinary team. This role starts asap and is offered on a part‑time basis for up to 32 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. We can be flexible for the right applicant and may open this position to two part‑time individuals – this can be discussed further at interview.

• Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme.
• Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and, whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
• Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
• Process dossette boxes.
• Manage ordering stock and stock control.
• Answer and deal with dispensary phone enquiries.
• Monitor patients’ exemption status.
• Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication.
• Any other duties to assist in the smooth day‑to‑day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

• NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification together with 2 years dispensing experience are essential.
• The ability to easily commute to our practice.
• Excellent clinical and medication knowledge.
• Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in a GP practice setting.
• The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career.
• The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi‑disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making.
• The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach.
• Excellent patient‑facing interpersonal communication skills.

Our practice is located within the beautiful Suffolk village of Wickhambrook, between Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Haverhill. Located at CB8 8XU
, the practice runs from a purpose‑built building and serves a patient population of approximately 5,200 patients, dispensing nearly 100% of the practice population.

Teamwork is key to a well‑run dispensary; our friendly dispensary team are committed to providing excellent patient service under the leadership of a dedicated Dispensary Manager.
