Volker Stevin, part of the Volker Wessels UK Group, is a leading civil engineering business delivering complex and innovative engineering solutions across maritime, flood risk management, defence, energy, water and regeneration. We are looking for a highly competent Project Manager to join our team on or long‑term Framework / Projects within the Helensburgh area.
OverviewStrong knowledge of M&E is preferable but not essential. A full security clearance is required before consideration.
Accountable For- The programme performance of projects within the portfolio across all stages.
- The commercial performance (including change control) of projects within the portfolio across all stages.
- The accurate completion of Monthly Project Review Dashboards and associated reporting.
- Management of all risks and opportunities of projects within the portfolio across all stages.
- Site SHEQ performance of all sites within the portfolio.
- Procurement and supply chain performance across the portfolio.
- Agree project targets with the Contracts Manager and ensure progress is measured regularly.
- Prioritise tasks across the portfolio.
- Lead the design, procurement and construction phases, defining critical path and milestones.
- Ensure the commercial team is fully involved in the plan and requirements.
- Organise regular update meetings with the project team and, when required, adjust strategy.
- Champion HSEQ performance – implement company procedures, produce site management plans and ensure safe systems of work.
- Ensure all employees, self‑employed workers and sub‑contractors understand and comply with HSEQ responsibilities.
- Report accidents and incidents to the HSEQ Manager and conduct investigations.
- Conduct 4‑weekly HSEQ planning meetings.
- Provide adequate training, support and mentoring to project teams.
- Experience managing heavy civil engineering projects in the UK, preferably within a Tier 1 contractor environment.
- Previous experience in pipeline and/or utility sector, including trenchless techniques such as HDD.
- Experience managing safe systems of works and quality management.
- Implementation of Permit to Excavate and services coordination.
- Excellent IT knowledge – AUTOCAD, Microsoft Office suite.
- Degree/HNC (or equivalent) in civil engineering.
- Member of a professional institution – MCIOB, ICE or similar.
- Strong communication skills with clients, site teams and operatives.
- Capability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion.
- Full driving licence.
