At Smiths Detection we make the world a safer place developing advanced technologies that detect weapons, explosives, narcotics and harmful chemicals. We're now expanding our software testing capability to support our CBRNE (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear & Explosives) product portfolio.
We're looking for a Software Test Engineer to help ensure our software applications and embedded firmware meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
Day to day tasks will include :- Execute manual and automated tests to verify functionality, usability and performance.
- Identify, log and track software defects working closely with developers to resolve issues.
- Set up test environments and automation frameworks.
- Use Jira, Test Rail, Bitbucket, Confluence and Katalon Studio to manage test cases, documentation and defects.
- Perform tests using scripting languages such as Python (e.g. for device simulators).
- Collaborate in Agile teams and contribute to continuous improvement of testing tools, processes and methodologies.
- Support formal test readiness reviews and ensure software meets internal and external quality standards.
Whilst this is a hybrid role expectations would be office based at least 3 days a week.
Qualifications :About you :
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools and best practices.
- Experience creating and executing test plans, cases and scripts.
- Familiarity with Agile development and CI/CD environments.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and communication skills.
- Eligible to obtain UK SC (Security Check) Clearance.
- 12 years experience as a Software Test Engineer or QA Engineer.
- Experience testing embedded systems or firmware.
- Knowledge of Git or other version control systems.
