The Heron Medical Practice is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join our team on a permanent basis. The role is for 15-20 hours per week, with the option to discuss.

Main duties of the jobAs a Health Care Assistant at The Heron Medical Practice, you will play a vital role in providing hands‑on care to our patients.
We are seeking a well‑rounded HCA with experience in blood collection, diabetic foot checks, wound care, patient health assessments, and maintaining accurate patient records. You will also support general clinical and administrative duties as required.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to enrol in future courses to support your career growth and personal development.

Job responsibilitiesCore Responsibilities of the Health Care Assistant
Please note that, occasionally, additional tasks may be required depending on workload and staffing levels.
- Provide routine clinical care to patients in line with practice policies and protocols
- Deliver wound care to patients
- Conduct spirometry tests
- Record ECGs
- Process and manage laboratory samples requested by GPs and Nurses
- Clear and re‑stock consulting rooms
- Assist in the assessment and monitoring of patients health and well‑being
- Undertake specific clinical activities for named patients as delegated and trained
- Help raise awareness of health and well‑being and promote healthy lifestyles
- Maintain accurate clinical records in compliance with relevant legislation
- Ensure effective use of read codes
- Chaperone patients when necessary
- Assist GPs with minor surgery as required
- Support ophthalmology clinics
- Aid the team in handling clinical emergencies
- Recognise and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
- Support patients in the use of prescribed or over‑the‑counter medicines (within own scope of practice)
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
- Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously

- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
- Experience with audit and able to lead audit programmes
- Experience with clinical risk management
- The Care Certificate (or equivalent level 3 qualification)
