Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Senior Advisor in the UK BAT team you can.

Large installations in the UK are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We’ve established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime will use the BAT concept principles of a transparent, collaborative, data‑ and evidence‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection.

Central to this process will be the UK BAT Senior Advisor.

Responsibilities

• Support the drafting of BAT Conclusions.
• Liaise with Technical Working Groups.
• Present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for industry.
• Review technical documents with a strong eye for detail.
• Critically review arguments and data.
• Coordinate the work of technical authors.
• Apply great project management skills and drive to complete tasks.

Travel and overnight stays may be required, although we use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.

Qualifications and experience

• Minimum 5 years of working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation across industrial sectors.
• Expertise in UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
• Experience coordinating and reviewing the publication of technical documents.
• Understanding of the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely results.
• Flexibility to respond to challenges and build consensus.
• Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
• Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues.

Applications will be blind assessed using competency‑based answers. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams and will include four capability‑based questions and a presentation. A reserve list will be held for six months.
