Job Description

Our In‑Service Support team provides back‑office engineering support to end users of our products, enabling them to achieve mission success 24/7/365, anywhere in the world. You will join a team of highly trained engineers with decades of experience across the Defence sector and all phases of the product life cycle. The team supports a customer base distributed across the globe, from the UK to the USA, Australia, Canada, India, Denmark, Norway, and many other countries.

This role offers a career path for an engineering technician in a progressive, dynamic environment with exposure to ground‑breaking technologies and systems, including Electro‑Optic and Data Distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering In‑Service support obligations, working closely with the project engineering team.
  • Act as lab manager, ensuring laboratory cleanliness meets high standards.
  • Carry out regular equipment maintenance to remain functional in line with contract obligations.
  • Investigate and rectify emerging defects with equipment.
  • Install new equipment and LRUs when required.
  • Assist with survey and repair of LRUs, and testing within parent equipment.
  • Conduct integration testing of new equipment, assisting design and software engineers.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop technically and commercially acceptable solutions.
  • Control and dispatch project equipment when required.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of test equipment and repair where applicable.
  • Support the field engineering team by collating test equipment and spares for site visits.
  • Monitor system performance, conducting root‑cause analysis of faults.
  • Assist with implementation of inspection and preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Ensure customer equipment remains safe and suitable for continued service.
  • Highlight resource conflicts or constraints to engineering management.
  • Instill engineering best practices and processes to enhance excellence and promote continuous improvement.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • HNC or higher in Engineering, or related discipline. An appropriate level of experience as an engineering technician will be considered if no formal qualifications are available.
  • Experience in Defence engineering and/or as an engineering technician maintaining complex systems.
  • Availability to work at Ultra Maritime’s Loudwater office at least 3 days a week.
  • Strong hands‑on technical ability with demonstrated defect investigation and rectification skills.
  • Examples of working under tight time constraints in challenging contexts.
  • Background working with maritime equipment is a bonus.
