Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are supporting a global technology group with a full in-house fare collection portfolio to hire a Sales Manager for the US arm of its Public Transport division.
This is a chance to help build a US business from an early stage, with the resources of an established global organization behind you. The business designs and manufactures fare collection systems, including ticket vending machines, fare gates, validators and supporting software, and is now growing its presence in the US transit market.
The RoleReporting to the head of the US group, the Sales Manager will drive business development with transit agencies across the US. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, and its scope may evolve as the business grows. The business works on long, project-driven sales cycles, typically 6-18 months. It is a relationship-driven market, and winning a tender depends on customers knowing you well before it is released.
You will help shape the US go-to-market strategy and stay involved as sales move into implementation. The team has a start-up feel, so you will also contribute across strategy, bids and proposals.
You will build and maintain relationships with transit agencies and key stakeholders ahead of tender release, positioning the business early in the procurement cycle. You will identify and win new opportunities for project-based solutions that combine hardware, software and services. You will contribute to bids and proposals alongside colleagues in the US and Europe, and support the transition into implementation after contract award.
Strategy is still flexible, for example between mobile ticketing and hardware-led projects, and you will help decide where the business focuses as traction builds.
We are looking for a sales professional with proven experience in external sales of project-based solutions combining hardware, software and services. Experience in public transit technology is important. Fare collection is ideal, and CAD/AVL, tolling or similar backgrounds are also highly relevant. System integrator experience and exposure to commercial or financial aspects of bids would be a plus.
You will be personable and skilled at building contacts and trust, including remotely. You will be self-organised, eager to learn, and comfortable working autonomously in a role that is not tightly structured. You will have the technical aptitude to pick up the product quickly, though a technical degree is not required.
Why This RoleYou will help shape how the US business grows, from which agencies and projects to pursue to how the team goes to market. You will represent a major European technology group as it expands in the US market, selling a full-range fare collection offering that is designed and built in-house. The role combines the autonomy of a small team with the backing of a large, established organization, and its scope can grow as the US business does.
WorkingPattern
US-based and remote, with regular travel to customers across the US and to meet the wider team.
