Job overviewThe Trust is investing in its Emergency Medicine department and is recruiting to Substantive consultant posts to support senior delivery of Emergency Care and development of the service. Posts will deliver consultant delivered night shifts and cover paediatric emergency medicine.
Main duties of the job- Comply with Emergency Department policies and maintain skills and knowledge through CPD
- Participate in day‑to‑day training and supervision of junior medical staff and all training activities facilitated by the department
- Cover colleagues for unpredictable short‑term absence
- Be called to the department when a Major Incident is declared
- Provide professional supervision and encourage development of all Doctors and ACPs within the Emergency Department
- Contribute to provision of reports for the Coroner, Police Statements and for Complaints management adhering to time frames
- Maintain own clinical professional development and participate in the Trust appraisal system
- Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers
- Register with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine for CPD

We provide urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.
Qualifications- MCEM or equivalent
- Specialist registration for Emergency Medicine (UK) or within six months of admission to the register for trainees
- Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice
- High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Emergency Medicine specialty
- Significant experience of minor Emergency Medicine procedures and additional postgraduate qualifications are preferable
- Understanding of current issues within the wider NHS
- Attendance at a recognised management course
- Ability to work and lead others across professions
- Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff
- Academic achievements and evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
- Training in clinical and educational supervision
- Attendance at a teaching course
- Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in audit projects
- Critical appraisal skills
- Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
- Good communication and empathy skills with patients
- Willingness to participate in a multi‑disciplinary team environment to provide an integrated service
- Ability to work as a member of a team, both through communication and sharing workload
- Ability to manage high pressure situations e.g. clinical crisis
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload and co‑ordinate staff
- Willingness to work flexibly to deliver clinically effective and cost effective healthcare
- Evidence of continual learning and development
- Understanding of strengths and weaknesses and impact of behaviour on others
- Evidence of innovation
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
- Enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the Disclosure and Barring Service
