Practice Nurse

Newsome Surgery is looking for an enthusiastic, patient focused and independently motivated Registered Nurse to join our friendly team.

Youwill be an experienced Primary Care Practice Nurse who is comfortable working independently but under the leadership of our GP Partners, supporting with all aspects of nursing care and improving on the safety and quality of patient careat every opportunity.

Weare seeking an individual who is passionate about directly improving patient care and delivering high quality care to a wide range of patients.

Youshould be patient-focused, independently motivated, and possess good communication and interpersonal skills.

Youwill ideally be an experienced Primary Care Practice Nurse; however, a Practice Nurse from secondary care with the right skills, motivation, drive and willingness to learn and develop would be considered.

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

Main duties of the role will include but not be limited to;

-Assisting and performing routine nursing tasks related to patient care.

-Support patients to improve and maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health and wellbeing by using behaviour change interventions.

- To undertakeadult and child NHS immunisation programmes and cervical screening.

- Tobe competent in venepuncture, ECGs and other diagnostic tests.

- Tobe competent in wound care management.

- Tolead and support on chronic disease management.

-Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate who are being examined byanother clinician.

- Tobe able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and the correct use of Automated Defibrillator following training, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.

- To participate in developments within the practice / network and support QOF / DESrequirements.

Job responsibilities

Professional

• Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection
• Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions
• Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes, facilitating change by providing holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise
• Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
• Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
• Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
• Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
• Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
• Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
• Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines
• Suture removal
• Take ECGs
• Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines
• Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines
• Assist in the provision of minor surgery
• Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written)
• Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained
• Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment
• Confidentially of information gained at work must be preserved at all times

• Contribute to the assessment of service needs
• Assist patients to identify their health needs
