OverviewTo prepare meals and manage kitchen staff.
Core
Purpose:
To prepare all meals and ensure that the regulations pertaining to the safe and hygienic operation of the kitchen are met. To manage the Kitchen Assistants to provide a smooth efficient food service. Responsible for complying to guidelines and standards. Ordering of goods, paperwork and keeping records up to date as necessary.
- Preparation and production of all meals, including vegetables, salads, fruit, sweet and savoury sauces, milk, puddings, cakes, pastries, sandwiches and cooking as appropriate.
- Running the food service to serve children and staff.
- Catering for special dietary needs and allergies.
- Adhere to and maintain all relevant Food Hygiene and Health and Safety legislation.
- Liaise with head/teachers regarding themed days and calendar events.
- Manage and organise Kitchen Assistants, providing clear instructions for outstanding food service.
- Carry out performance management and identify training needs.
- Accurately manage stock levels, maintain records and procedures (e.g., fridge & freezer temperature record).
- Ensure staff are trained on using kitchen equipment and that all equipment is in full working order and meets Health and Safety standards.
- Deliver an effective, high quality catering service to the Academy on time.
- Encourage and promote students to eat a variety of dishes.
- Observe Health and Safety and food hygiene regulations to prevent contamination.
- Assist in set up and clear dining/service area when required.
- Accommodate catering requirements for special functions such as Open Days.
- Supply catering to other schools in the trust.
- Keep all work areas and surfaces clean and tidy at all times, including end-of-day/shift clean-up.
- Deep clean the kitchen during non-term periods.
- Ensure washing of towels, cloths, and other items; items are washed and stored properly.
- Secure stores during working hours.
- Report and take action on compliments or complaints.
- Report and take action for incidents, fire, loss, theft, damage, unfit food, and other irregularities.
- Attend meetings and training courses.
- Carry out reasonable requests by management/supervisor.
- Uphold and practice safeguarding and promote welfare of students in day-to-day dealings.
Experience in managing the delivery of an effective catering service for a school or similar setting. Ability to encourage students to eat a variety of dishes. Knowledge of Health and Safety good practice. Capability to maintain clean and tidy kitchen environment. Willingness to attend training and safeguard children.
