Position: Technical Manager (Food)
About the Role

Are you a passionate, hands-on technical leader who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment? We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to take ownership of our site's technical agenda, driving continuous improvement, championing food safety, and ensuring we exceed retailer and regulatory standards at every turn.

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with production and wider operational teams, acting as the technical conscience of the business. You'll lead from the front-motivating your team, embedding best practices, and influencing stakeholders to deliver a safe, compliant, and high-performing site. This is based in Fife.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a technical team comprising:

Quality Manager, Quality Lead, Quality Technicians

Technical Assistant

Technical Compliance Manager

Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, and legal requirements.

Maintain, develop, and enhance BRCGS standards and retailer codes of practice.

Oversee internal, external, and customer audits-implementing robust corrective actions and preventative measures.

Retailer Engagement

Act as the primary technical interface for major retail customers.

Manage specifications, complaints, and retailer technical queries professionally and promptly.

Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement improvements to systems, processes, and site standards.

Lead waste reduction, efficiency, and quality enhancement initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work hand-in-hand with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure technical standards are integral to daily operations.

Support NPD and product launches from a technical and compliance perspective.

Other Responsibilities

Ensure full compliance with legislative requirements and internal company standards.

Perform additional duties as required by the business.

Qualifications & Experience

Proven experience in a technical leadership role within food manufacturing.

Level 2 HACCP and Level 2 Food Hygiene (minimum).

Internal auditor experience.

Strong working knowledge of BRCGS and food safety systems.

Skills & Knowledge

Excellent understanding of retailer requirements and codes of practice.

A hands-on approach, comfortable working on the factory floor.

Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels.

Experience leading audits and driving compliance improvements.

Advanced problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities.
