Senior Quantity Surveyor – Construction/Developer – Entrepreneurial Negotiator!

We want a switched on QS negotiator! – Suffolk

Outstanding opportunity well-established DYNAMIC SME construction company based in Ipswich, delivering high-quality projects across commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments. This is a business with a great reputation and a collaborative approach, they need an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen the team.

The Role

This is a senior-level position, ideal for an experienced professional who thrives on serious negotiation and commercial management. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects are financially successful, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers. Importantly, this role does not involve line management – it’s about technical expertise, negotiation, and delivering results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on cost planning, budgeting and forecasting for construction projects.
  • Prepare tender and contract documentation (JCT/NEC).
  • Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to secure best value.
  • Manage variations, valuations and final accounts.
  • Provide strategic commercial advice to project teams and directors.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, contractual and quality standards.
Requirements
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent (ideal).
  • Chartered status (MRICS or similar) preferred (ideal but not essential).
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in construction cost management, negotiation in a similar SME QS role.
  • Very strong negotiation skills with proven commercial acumen.
  • Excellent knowledge of contracts.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
