Job DescriptionAs a Technical Author on the UK BAT team you will help shape environmental standards by:
- Drafting BAT Conclusions and liaising with Technical Working Groups.
- Presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK-wide, environmental standard for industry.
- Working with, and writing technical documents that support the development of BAT.
- Managing project timelines and ensuring deliverables meet standards.
Large Volume Inorganic Chemical (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The UK BAT Author safeguards and builds on high levels of environmental protection through a transparent, collaborative, data‑driven process.
Travel and overnight stays may be required. We use smart tools to minimise travel.
Responsibilities- Draft BAT Conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups, and present final documents.
- Apply specialist knowledge of the LVIC industry.
- Analyze technical arguments and data critically.
- Write clear, concise technical documents.
- Manage project timelines to complete deliverables.
- Support inclusive incident management objectives in your development plan.
- Partner with stakeholders across the Environment & Business Directorate, DEFRA, and the Standards Council.
Minimum of 5 years working experience with a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the LVIC industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the large Volume inorganic chemicals industry.
- Familiar with UK and EU industrial environmental legislation (IED, Environmental Permitting Regulations).
- Strong collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse backgrounds.
- Effective planning, prioritising, and organising tasks and resources.
- Responsive to challenges, building consensus, and influencing stakeholders.
