Job DescriptionAs a Technical Author in the UK BAT team you will develop Best Available Techniques (BAT) conclusions for large slaughterhouses and animal by‑product installations, liaise with Technical Working Groups and produce a final document that becomes a new UK‑wide environmental standard.
Responsibilities- Draft BAT Conclusions and support the definition of BAT within the UK.
- Liaise with Technical Working Groups and stakeholders to gather data and consensus.
- Prepare clear, technical documents and presentations for publication.
- Manage projects, prioritise tasks and meet agreed deadlines.
- Support incident management objectives and develop suitable roles.
- Travel as required, including overnight stays.
- Specialist knowledge of the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
- Strong understanding of process engineering, environmental issues and UK legislation.
- Analytical skills to critically assess technical arguments and data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management experience with a focus on delivering results.
- Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in environmental regulation for the industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
- Knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, especially the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
- Experience in collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Ability to explain BAT conclusions’ implications on permits, industry and the environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication, relationship‑building and consensus‑building skills.
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks to deliver timely results.
- Flexibility to respond to challenges and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
Full‑time, mid‑senior level. Up to 2‑year contract with possibility of renewal. Flexible working arrangements, including job share, are welcome. Travel and overnight stays may be required.
