Trainee Utility Surveyor

Role Overview

As a Trainee Utility Surveyor, you will work on exciting and varied utilities, CCTV and drainage surveying projects, learning to conduct surveys on site using innovative technology and how to process data in the office. The ideal candidate will have an interest in outdoor activities and a passion for a career as a Utility Surveyor.

You will follow the company's structured training programme and undertake on‑job training led by experienced surveyors, giving you the unique opportunity to earn while you learn.

• Work on site with experienced surveyors, conducting underground utilities, CCTV and drainage surveys using innovative technology and processing data in the office.
• Undertake on‑job training and earn while you learn.
• Set up surveying instruments, record data and provide logistical support to surveyors.
• Undertake tasks in the office environment to assist with project completion such as processing surveying data, instrument checks, organising and loading equipment, data input.
• Maintain survey instruments to a high working standard and ensure they are fit for purpose.
• Attend and contribute effectively to training and development days to aid progression through the programme.
• Follow Survey Solutions' health and safety policies and procedures and promote a high standard of health, safety and welfare in the workplace and to members of the public while onsite.

• Keen interest in outdoor activities or previous experience working outside.
• Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade C / Grade 4 level.
• Must be over 18 years of age due to regular overtime worked over 40 hours per week and employment law regulations.
• Passionate about pursuing a career in Utility Surveying.
• Good practical and problem‑solving skills.
• Logical thinker with an ability to deal with figures.
• Ability to work successfully as part of a team.
• Ability to demonstrate and understand the importance of health and safety at work.
• Willingness to travel regularly with some overnight stays to complete projects.
• Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle.
• Ability to commute to our Ipswich office.

Survey Solutions is a leading engineering surveyor specialising in land, measured building and underground utility surveys as well as monitoring and site engineering schemes. We have a network of ten offices with our teams of surveyors and engineers working on some of the UK's major construction and infrastructure developments.

This is a full‑time role with office hours of Monday to Friday from 9.00 – 5.30, however site hours will vary so overtime and occasional weekend working will be required.
