Senior Planning Engineer

Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering projects that power millions and help drive the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

This role is based at Sizewell C in Suffolk, one of the UK’s most significant low‑carbon energy projects. You will spend three days per week on site, supporting a major substation construction programme and working closely with our specialist Power T&D teams to deliver this critical national infrastructure.

• Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring all programmes are fully resourced and logically linked across every stage of the project.
• Lead tender planning, producing clear and persuasive tender programmes and planning strategies that support successful bids.
• Manage contract programmes, keeping delivery aligned with commercial, operational and client requirements.
• Identify and manage risks, assessing impacts on the critical path and implementing effective mitigation or recovery plans.
• Produce accurate reports and insights, including progress updates, KPIs and planning information for the project leadership team.
• Support and guide junior planners, encouraging teamwork, knowledge sharing and professional development.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders—Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams and Clients—to ensure successful delivery.
• Improve planning processes and enhance tools, systems and ways of working across the planning function.

• A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in planning roles on major infrastructure or energy projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 or Asta Power project, plus Excel and reporting tools.
• Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA and TRA methodologies.
• A strategic, analytical mindset with a keen eye for programme risk and opportunity.
• Excellent communication skills to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
• The ability to lead independently and collaboratively in a hybrid, fast‑paced environment.
