We are seeking a dedicated R&D Chemist – Powder to support our Sherwin-Williams Innovation Team in Minerbio .
Responsibilities
Innovation Project Management (5-Stage Process):
Oversight of projects through all Stage‑Gate phases — concept, feasibility, development, validation, and commercialization — ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
Development and optimization of powder coatings for diverse markets (industrial, agricultural, construction equipment) to meet performance and aesthetic requirements.
Execution of comprehensive laboratory testing, including mechanical, chemical, and environmental resistance (e.g., corrosion, adhesion, gloss, hardness).
Identification of new product opportunities and customer needs; creation of innovative coating concepts aligned with business strategy.
Performance of early formulation trials, raw material screening, and evaluation of technical and economic feasibility.
Design and execution of experiments using Design of Experiments (DoE), laboratory validation, and preparation of technical documentation.
Support for pilot‑scale trials, collaboration with manufacturing for process optimization, and validation of product performance through accelerated aging and corrosion testing.
Leadership in transitioning products from lab to production; support for customer trials, troubleshooting, and compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Coordination with suppliers, external labs, and internal teams; provision of training and mentorship to junior chemists and technicians.
Maintenance of accurate laboratory records, effective communication of results, and contribution to ongoing improvement of formulations and testing processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science field; coursework in Chemistry strongly preferred. Equivalent experience in coatings formulation will be considered.
Minimum 3 years in the coatings industry, including hands‑on formulation of powder coating products.
Preferred: 3–5 years developing Epoxy, PET, TGIC‑HAA, Hybrid, or Urethane powder coatings; prior internship or Co‑op experience in coatings formulation desirable.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with working knowledge of polymer chemistry, cross‑linking systems, and industrial coatings applications.
Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA), colorimetry, gloss measurement, and interpretation of spectral data.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects effectively; experience with Stage‑Gate or similar innovation processes is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office and basic data analysis; knowledge of statistics and data interpretation preferred.
Excellent written, verbal in English and presentation skills; proven ability to work within cross‑functional teams and mentor peers.
Creativity, adaptability, curiosity for innovation, and strong decision‑making skills; ability to respond quickly to new challenges.
