The Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit
—a Centre of Excellence in Human Development at the University of the Witwatersrand, supported by DSTI/NRF—seeks to appoint a motivated individual into a 12‑month Postdoctoral Fellowship with the possibility of extension. This role will involve working as part of an exclusive research team in areas aligned with the unit’s niches—health, nutrition, and/or social science.
Minimum Education and Training
- PhD in Health Sciences (a PhD in Physiology would be advantageous).
- Proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS (AMOS/PROCESS), STATA, or G
* Power. - Competence in data management tools (e.g., REDCap).
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated publication record.
- Completion of a PhD.
- Extensive experience in both physiology and epidemiology.
- Experience leading quantitative data collection and analysis.
- Develop research protocols.
- Obtain approvals from relevant ethics and regulatory bodies.
- Supervise fieldwork (data collection, interviews, etc.) and conduct data collection when required.
- Monitor the progress of research projects.
- Conduct literature reviews and keep abreast of relevant research findings.
- Lead quantitative data analysis and write‑up.
- Write and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications.
- Identify relevant funding opportunities and write research and funding proposals.
- Contribute to policy development.
- Attend to all staff requirements and administrative duties.
- Identify training needs and topics to support knowledge development within the team.
Appointment date: 1 February 2026
Duration: 12 months with possibility of contract extension
