Location: Johannesburg – Meadowview Distribution Centre
Are you an experienced Transport Manager who thrives in a fast-paced distribution environment and knows how to lead large driver teams with confidence and control? This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a high-volume transport operation and make a real operational impact.
⚠️ Important: This role is strictly for Transport Management professionals. Fleet Managers will not be considered.
Role Overview
As the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end planning, coordination, and control of transport operations at the Meadowview Distribution Centre. You will manage a large driver workforce, ensure legal and operational compliance, and drive efficient, on-time delivery of multi-temperature products.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead 100–200 drivers and van assistants
- Plan, allocate, and optimise delivery routes for cost efficiency and service excellence
- Oversee distribution of ambient, chilled, and frozen products
- Ensure full compliance with NBCRFLI, including overtime, shifts, and benefits
- Control driver attendance, productivity, overtime, and disciplinary processes
- Enforce health, safety, and road traffic regulations
- Monitor transport KPIs, delivery performance, and operational costs
- Coordinate closely with warehouse and distribution teams
- Manage driver training, coaching, and performance
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and delivery deviations
- Maintain accurate transport records, reports, and compliance documentation
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager (non-negotiable)
- Experience managing large driver teams (100+ staff)
- Strong route planning and route optimisation skills
- FMCG / food distribution experience with multi-temperature products
- Solid knowledge of NBCRFLI, labour relations, and overtime management
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform under pressure in a high-volume environment
- Computer literacy (transport systems, reporting tools, Excel)
- People leadership and accountability
- Operational planning and execution
- Labour compliance and cost control
- Strong decision-making ability
- Excellent organisational and attention-to-detail skills
