Core Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a Baker is to ensure customer satisfaction by consistently preparing, baking, frying, and producing eye-appealing and quality products for the display case and for special orders, while delivering courteous, pleasant, and patient customer service.

• Baking & Production:
  Prepare, bake, fry, and produce quality products for the display showcase and special orders by accurately following recipes and making necessary adjustments. Prepare and mix fillings, batters, frostings, and other items needed for bakery products.
• Planning & Inventory Support:
  Prepare daily production lists and plan for upcoming days. Create breakout lists, receive/store freight, order supplies, and retrieve products or customer orders from walk-in chillers and freezers.
• Sanitation & Department Care:
  Clean and replace oil from fryers. Perform cleaning duties including washing dishes and equipment, discarding trash, and cleaning work tables and stations.
• Customer & Team Engagement:
  Promptly and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance to, and meet customer needs with local warmth and hospitality. Answer incoming phone calls, take special orders, use the PA system, and assist Cake Decorators and Counter Clerks as needed.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Environment: Continuously perform most duties in an air-conditioned building that may be dusty and noisy with high customer volume. Work in prep rooms that may become very hot due to heat from stoves, ovens, and fryers. Frequently exposed to dust from powdered sugar/flour, as well as wet/cold conditions in walk-in chillers/freezers or dishwashing areas. Seldom work outdoors in hot/humid weather to receive freight, bale boxes, or discard trash.

Physical Effort: Continuously stand, walk, handle items, and adapt to a fast pace during high-demand periods. Frequently bend, crouch, reach, and lift/carry up to 35 lbs (e.g., mixing bowls, ingredients, baking pans). Use fine finger dexterity for dough work and depth perception when using knives. Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs (pouring sugar) and push/pull up to 400 lbs (receiving freight).

Equipment Use: Continuously use gas ovens, electric fryers, mixers, donut glazers, and proofers. Frequently use single-burner electric stoves, balance scales, pastry scissors, donut cutters, knives, spatulas, measuring tools, microwaves, pastry fillers, stock wagons, and telephones. Occasionally use TELXON units, case cutters, tongs, cake turntable/decorating tools, and cleaning tools. Seldom use bread slicers, pricing guns, and stretch wrappers.

Safety Equipment: Continuously wear a back support belt while performing job duties.
