Your RoleAs a Data Cloud Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, stability, and continuous improvement of existing database platforms running on AWS. You will ensure databases remain secure, highly available, performant, and recoverable, supporting production workloads and business-critical applications. This role focuses on operational excellence, troubleshooting, automation, and incremental optimization, working closely with Dev Ops, Platform, and application teams.
Operate& Support Existing AWS Databases
- Support and maintain production databases running on Amazon RDS, Aurora, and self-managed databases on EC2.
- Ensure database availability, integrity, and performance across multiple environments.
- Respond to database-related incidents, alerts, and service degradations.
- Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and replication using Cloud Watch, Performance Insights, and native database tools.
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues such as slow queries, locking, resource contention, and replication lag.
- Perform capacity planning and proactive tuning.
- Enforce database security best practices (access controls, encryption at rest/in transit, credential management).
- Manage and validate backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Support compliance, audit, and data protection requirements.
- Maintain and improve database provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code where applicable (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Automate routine DBA tasks such as backups, patching coordination, health checks, and reporting.
- Reduce manual operations while ensuring operational safety.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with minimal service disruption.
- Coordinate changes with application, Dev Ops, and platform teams.
- Participate in release planning and change control processes.
- Maintain accurate database documentation, schemas, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
- Ensure operational standards and best practices are documented and followed.
- Perform housekeeping activities to keep environments clean and supportable.
- Work closely with application developers to support schema changes, query optimization, and release readiness.
- Partner with Dev Ops and Platform teams on availability, automation, and monitoring improvements.
- Provide database expertise during incidents and post-incident reviews.
- A College Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience in Database Administration supporting production systems.
- AWS Databases:
Amazon RDS, Aurora (MySQL/Postgre
SQL), self-managed DBs on EC2. - Database Engines:
MySQL, Postgre
SQL, Oracle, SQL Server (one or more). - Monitoring & Performance:
Cloud Watch, Performance Insights, query analysis tools. - Backup & Recovery:
Automated backups, snapshots, point-in-time recovery, DR testing. - Security: IAM integration, encryption, secrets management.
- Automation & IaC:
Terraform / Cloud Formation exposure preferred.
- Operations-driven with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Detail-oriented and reliability-focused.
- Comfortable supporting existing/legacy database environments.
- Automation-minded and improvement-oriented.
- Clear communicator with a documentation-first mindset.
- Fluent in English and French (optionally), able to coordinate across teams delivering thrilling player experiences.
- Experience with high-availability and multi-AZ architectures.
- Exposure to database replication and migration strategies.
- Familiarity with SRE practices (SLIs/SLOs, incident management).
- AWS certifications (e.g., Database Specialty, Solutions Architect).
