Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi‑phase integrated mega projects, we support upstream, midstream, or downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all stages of the project lifecycle, anywhere in the world. We are focused on providing design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, protect and restore biodiversity, and support our clients as they transition to low carbon solutions.

To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our teams located in any one of our Canadian offices with preference for Calgary, AB, Moncton, NB, Kitchener, ON.

Join our vibrant and rapidly expanding team across Canada, where you'll tackle complex energy projects from initial concepts to detailed engineering. As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
, you will work on mechanical engineering deliverables in collaboration with various disciplines to ensure we meet our project goals. You will support multiple types of clients (Independent Power Producers, Municipal Electric Utilities, Investor‑Owned Utilities, Contractors, and Developers), address their challenges, and implement power grid systems of the future. In doing so, you will work on a wide range of power plant technologies including biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, fossil fuel, carbon capture, battery energy storage, and hydro.

What you can expect to do here
  • Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data. Interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and detailers/designers.
  • Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in the development of PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • University Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the EPCM environment ideally with a focus on industrial facilities.
  • Must be a currently licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in their province of practice.
  • Experience with in the consulting environment desired.
  • Previous experience with power plant, renewable natural gas plant design desired.
  • Working knowledge of Microstation or Auto CAD.
  • Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.
  • Experience using Caesar II or Auto Pipe.
  • Experience using Thermoflow.
Salary range (in British Columbia)
