Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Power team in western Canada is offering opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substations for our clients. You will coordinate planning and design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
  • Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
  • Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
  • Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
  • Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
  • Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Power Systems)
  • Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset
  • Field experience in commissioning and testing is an asset
  • Proven knowledge in Civil/Structural and P&C is an asset
  • Equipment engineering experience is an asset
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Micro Station
  • Effective interpersonal skills (written, verbal) are essential to interact with multi-disciplinary teams, suppliers, sub-consultants and build client relationships
  • Demonstrated capability to efficiently handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Valid driver’s license

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design and engineering experience related to high voltage substations for utilities in North America
  • Professional Engineer registration (P.Eng) required

Pay ranges are provided where required by location. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Some roles are bonus eligible.
