To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our teams located at any one of our Canadian offices with preference for Calgary, AB.

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Structural Engineer to join WSP’s dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in structural engineering and structural dynamic principles, proficient in FEA, analytical, detailed‑oriented, critical thinker, and a problem solver. They will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks on a range of challenging and rewarding projects.

Responsibilities
  • Establish design criteria, prepare engineering specifications, design calculations, material take offs (MTO) in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, cost control activities in the design as related to the Project Plan.
  • Propose solutions for improving or optimizing processes, programs, and procedures. Assist in resolving complex problems requiring a comprehensive and detailed analysis and multi‑disciplinary understanding.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer by providing functional guidance, coaching and peer review to the team’s less experienced professionals or to technicians.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of large and complex projects requiring innovative solutions.
  • Conduct on‑site inspections as required.
  • Detail civil and structural designs, which include concrete foundations, piling, steel structures etc.
  • Prepare documentation for engineering hours budgets, schedules, work plans, tender documents, technical reports, project calculations etc.
  • Assign, give instructions and provide directions to technical support staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and team members.
  • Ensure the Quality Assurance, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables.
  • Be responsible for reviewing and stamping drawings (as required); using experience in interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Check work of and assist in the training of less experienced engineering personnel.
  • Communicate with internal peers and project team and may be required to answer questions regarding deliverables.
