The Electrical Engineer in Facilities supports the Facilities Department with the management of electrical systems for facility related assets to ensure safe and reliable electrical distribution systems. This includes both short and long term project planning, development, and execution alongside daily operations related engineering services. This position will be required to act as the owner’s representative for a vast and expansive asset base, spanning nearly 150 facilities including arenas, pools, firehalls, administration, cultural, utility operations and other building assets.
In addition to the technical component, this position will be responsible for supporting the department’s electrical Technicians and their associated maintenance duties. Also, this position will provide relief management coverage on an as-needed basis and is a key part of the Facilities management group. Capital & operational project scoping & prioritizationLeads the prioritization of renewal for electrical assets, communicates priorities holistically to allow for prioritization within other systems and against other interests, prepares detailed justifications and reportsProvides leadership, technical expertise, and consultation for capital projects related to electrical systems and equipment, including partnership with electric utility.Identifies, develops, and estimates project requirements for all renewal capital for electrical assets, determines expenditure type – capital vs. operating, and executes projects accordinglySupports the development of the annual, and ten-year capital plans using evidence-based practices including information from building condition assessment dataMaintenance scoping & prioritization:Develops standardized asset maintenance procedures for electrical equipment including MCC’s, electrical panels, automation, aquatic equipment, ice plant equipment, utilities, and other electrical componentsWithin the asset management software, maintain and monitor asset inventory, maintenance procedures and costs to provide professional guidanceBuilds work plans for electrical maintenance utilizing current best practices including aspects of preventative, predictive and reliability centered maintenance modelsQuantifies and reports on reactive vs planned works, work order backlogs, service request resolution timing and other key performance indicators developed by the departmentTechnical advisory, strategic & continuous improvementEnsures the department maintains regulatory compliance with appropriate regulating bodies/authorities, including Technical Safety BCProvides innovative professional engineering advice and strategic support pertaining to electrical assets including establishing electrical technical standards and specifications, design work and reviews, commissioning reviews, and project closeout supportSummarizes and presents findings and recommendations from both internal and externally delivered asset programs to internal stakeholders, City Council and Partner organizationsSupport and align with the Strategic Facilities Master Plan and Strategic Energy Management PlanManage budgetPrimary responsibility for the annual Facilities electrical renewal capital program, responsible for the potential execution of up to $4,000,000 annuallyPrimary responsibility of the electrical preventative maintenance program which has an annual operating budget of…
