The School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for one Research Associate position in the battery group supervised by Dr. Jian Liu. This position will be located at UBC's Okanagan campus and is available immediately.
Qualifications of the applicant
Essential
:
Have completed a relevant Ph.D. in materials science, electrochemistry, or chemistry.
Be highly motivated, organized, a good communicator (written and verbal), and passionate about battery research.
Thrive in a team environment and mentoring/team-building role.
Have a strong desire to conduct transformational research in close collaboration with the industry.
Previous research experience in one or more of the following areas in supercapacitor or battery technologies is required (pouch cell assembly and testing, electrode and electrolyte for supercapacitors; lithium metal anode, solid electrolyte, solid-state cathode, solid-state battery assembly and characterization).
Responsibilities and training
:
Lead the execution and delivery of industry-sponsored projects on batteries and supercapacitors.
Interface with industry and other stakeholders to identify needs and resources, formulate project plans, and ensure timely deliverables.
Communicate regularly with the industrial partners to update progress, receive guidance on new assignments, make preliminary selections of technical alternatives, and independently complete recurring assignments.
Deliver clear and concise written and oral presentations of data, analysis, and internal/external reports. Prepare manuscripts for publications if appropriate.
Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the new battery facility at UBC and manage its daily operations.
Mentor and assist students in both technical and safety matters.
Duration & Salary
:
This position has an initial 1-year appointment, with the potential for annual renewal/promotion.
The salary starts at $75,000/year minimum (plus benefits) and is commensurate with qualifications.
The anticipated start date is as soon as possible (negotiable). Review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
