OverviewLarge Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use “Best Available Techniques” (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The regime uses the BAT concept principles of transparency, collaboration, data and evidence‑led processes that safeguard and build on the current high levels of environmental protection.
The UK BAT Author is central to this process, drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for industry.
Responsibilities- Draft BAT Conclusions and related technical documents.
- Liaise with Technical Working Groups.
- Present final documents suitable for publication as new UK‑wide environmental standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across industry and government.
- Conduct smart‑tools usage and manage travel for meetings as required.
Minimum 5 years working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the LVIC industry.
- Specialist knowledge and understanding of the LVIC industry.
- Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
- Understanding of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
- Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
- Strong written communication skills for technical documentation.
- Good project management skills and a drive to complete.
- Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Understanding implications of BAT Conclusions in permits and industry.
- Verbal and written communication.
- Building and maintaining relationships.
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources.
- Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus.
- Working effectively across diverse backgrounds and cultures.
A range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
Contact & Application InformationApplications will be “blind” assessed using the competency questions. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams with 4 capability‑based questions and a presentation. A reserve list will be held for 6 months.
Length of contract: up to 2 years from appointment.
