Stop Smoking Practitioner - Kent (west kent)
Full time/ Part time
The stop smoking practitioner is responsible for supporting and facilitating the delivery of smoking cessation programmes within the Place Based Local Stop Smoking Service in Kent (West Kent).
We have opportunities for a new practitioner covering areas in Kent including West Kent (Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Sevenoaks). Face to face delivery in community locations. You will receive your own cohort of patients and face‑to‑face clinics to support and maintain and will help to improve the accessibility of Kent’s Place Based Stop Smoking Service through the pro‑active promotion of the smoking cessation programme and referral pathways to key health care providers, allied professionals, community events, local agencies, and the general public.
You will be part of both the smoking cessation team and receive additional in‑house training including data security, first aid and safeguarding. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, and looking to make a big difference, then this is the role for you!
The Ideal Candidate would preferably have completed and be registered with the NCSCT as a Stop Smoking Practitioner already and have experience of working in this role.
Candidate Profile- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a community‑based smoking cessation service.
- Experience in using behaviour change models within a work context.
- Clear understanding of the range and appropriate use of different smoking cessation interventions.
- Strong knowledge of the harmful effects of smoking, smoking as an addiction behaviour, withdrawal, and relapse.
- Flexible with good time management and planning skills.
- Interest in motivating and supporting both individuals in virtual and community‑based settings.
- Sound knowledge of delivering smoking cessation interventions and advising on smoking cessation to special populations (e.g. people experiencing homelessness and Traveller communities).
- Ability to raise public awareness and provide consistent healthy lifestyle messaging on issues relevant to the health of the community and in a multi‑cultural setting.
- Experience in building strong links and relationships with a diverse range of groups, organisations, and agencies.
- Provide information to smokers to enable them to make an informed choice to stop smoking and support them with a formal evidence‑based quit programme.
- Develop and improve accessibility of the Kent Place Based Stop Smoking Service through pro‑active promotion of the smoking cessation programmes and referral pathways amongst primary and secondary care services, allied professionals, community development initiatives, local agencies and the general public.
- Provide ongoing support to a caseload of referrals, supporting each quit attempt in line with national and company standards.
- Contribute to the planning, delivery and development of the stop smoking service including specific project work.
- In conjunction with the delivery team lead plan and deliver an appropriate and accessible cessation service within the delivery team area.
- Assess client suitability for Stop Smoking treatments and deliver one‑to‑one and group support.
- Adhere to service protocols and procedures in relation to the provision of supportive pharmacotherapy medication.
- Collate accurate clinical records in line with national OHID/NCSCT requirements and input data into the service web‑based database in a timely and professional manner.
- Support the service in delivering key performance indicators and activity as set out within the service specification.
- Support the delivery of promotion activity across Kent in line with the service marketing strategy.
- Work flexibly to provide a coordinated service across localities, including evening and weekend work where required.
- Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge, undertake evidence‑based practice and promote the use of new and innovative practice.
- Conduct analysis and evaluation of designated programmes in order to improve the quality of service.
- Identify issues or concerns to line manager so that appropriate action can be taken.
