It’s an exciting time to be working at Bath & North East Somerset as we implement an organisational change programme that is transforming the way we work. We are at the hub of a significant capital investment programme that spans transport and highways projects, rationalises our Corporate Estate, develops flagship sites at Bath Quays and Somer Valley, and delivers an ambitious housing programme through a pipeline of activity and allocation of strategic sites.
As a Senior Building Surveyor you will work closely with other council colleagues and dedicated Surveyors and Engineers to manage a large portfolio of council assets. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and assessing a whole range of building issues from mechanical and electrical services, buildings fabric and structural elements to ensure that services are delivered safely and efficiently. You will also play a key role in maintaining compliance with health and safety law and extending the life of our buildings by preventing failures that can impact on services.
Responsibilities- Inspect and assess building assets to determine the condition and performance of mechanical, electrical, fabric and structural systems.
- Develop and deliver maintenance plans that support service delivery and meet health and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to plan and execute capital works and refurbishment projects.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to council staff and external stakeholders on building performance and asset management.
- Relevant professional registration in surveying, engineering or a related discipline.
- Substantial experience in building inspection, asset management and maintenance planning within a public sector environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable maintenance solutions.
