Position: Refinery Support Technician (Laboratory)

Refinery Support Technician (Laboratory) – join to apply for the Refinery Support Technician (Laboratory) role at British Sugar.

Job Purpose

The role involves sample collection and accurate analysis as per agreed analytical schedules. Improvement (non-routine) analysis to be carried out as required. Results to be recorded and communicated to the factory operations team to facilitate the successful operation of the factory process within defined criteria. Delivery of daily laboratory tasks will be required to facilitate effective delivery of the laboratory scope.

Core

Accountabilities
  • Collection of samples from designated sample points within the factory environment.
  • Accurately following defined methods and calibration routines to analyse the samples, recording the data and communicating the results to the factory team in a timely manner.
  • Correct and timely use of laboratory reporting systems.
  • Carrying out daily laboratory activities in line with laboratory standards.
  • Ensuring the highest level of housekeeping is maintained in the laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out tasks safely.
  • Act in accordance with the British Sugar Values and behaviours.
  • Engage in continuous improvement analysis to support factory development.
  • Flexibility with supporting plant activities as and when needed.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Able to handle a mobile role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the teams.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • GCSE/GCE or equivalent level qualification in a scientific subject.
  • Communication and organisational skills.
