Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the company
River City Consulting is recruiting for an AI infrastructure company that develops and operates data centers for GPU cloud providers, AI labs, and enterprise customers. Projects range from 2.5 MW deployments to multiphase sites of 30 MW and beyond. Some involve converting existing industrial buildings into facilities that can support high-density GPU infrastructure.
About the roleAs Senior Data Center Engineer, you’ll represent the company as the owner’s engineer from site evaluation and utility coordination through design, construction, commissioning, and handoff to operations. You’ll work directly with utilities, engineers of record, contractors, and equipment vendors. You’ll also help turn what works in the field into reference designs and operating standards for future sites.
What you’ll own- Evaluate candidate sites for available and expandable power, utility service, fiber, water, structural capacity, and permitting constraints. Develop phased capacity plans, cost estimates, and schedules for bringing sites into service.
- Lead utility coordination and electrical design reviews covering transformers, switch gear, UPS, generators, and rack power distribution.
- Review mechanical designs for high-density GPU deployments, including air cooling, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, coolant distribution units, and facility water systems. Recommend redundancy and phasing based on uptime, cost, and delivery schedule.
- Represent the company during construction. Review submittals and RFIs, resolve technical issues with designers and contractors, and guide procurement of long-lead equipment.
- Lead commissioning and integrated systems testing. Establish operating procedures, preventive maintenance, and incident response, and help integrate facility monitoring with the company’s data center management software.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in data centers or comparable mission-critical facilities. Deeper experience leading projects from design through commissioning is preferred.
- Hands-on ownership of a meaningful workstream in design, construction, commissioning, or critical operations. Experience delivering a multi-megawatt site from concept to service is a strong plus.
- Depth in electrical or mechanical infrastructure and the ability to review how power and cooling interact at high rack densities.
- Experience coordinating with utilities, design firms, contractors, or equipment vendors and explaining technical tradeoffs to both technical and nontechnical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites, with heavier travel during construction and commissioning.
A PE license, experience with liquid-cooled GPU clusters, industrial building conversions, or utility coordination in the TVA service area is a plus.
- Compensation will depend on experience and scope. Equity may be available for the right candidate.
