Position SummaryThis full-time position would be a great leadership opportunity for a self-directed, highly motivated and results-oriented clinical leader who is innovative and creative and is committed to a collaborative management style. Reporting to the Director, Mental Health Programs, you will be responsible for the operational management of the mental health inpatient and outpatient programs with accountability for day-to-day operations, patient flow, people management, fiscal stewardship, risk management and safety, the provision of high-quality care and, ultimately, an ideal individual experience.
EducationAnd Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant Healthcare discipline required, a Master of Business Administration or Healthcare Administration degree is preferred.
- Current registration in good standing with the applicable professional college or licensing body.
- 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience within a comparable healthcare organization.
- Demonstrated ability managing all aspects of human resource management and planning including recruitment, retention and safety and professional development strategies.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic and operational planning, quality improvement, analysis and utilization of data to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated success creating a quality and safety culture.
- Strong participatory leadership, team building, mentoring and coaching skills.
- Proven conflict management abilities and mediation skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships within a dynamic, professional environment.
- Results-oriented and client focused with a commitment to excellence.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
- Competent with the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Current Class G Driver’s License in good standing
- Submission of a clear Police Records/Vulnerable Sector Check (must be completed within last 6 months).
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the mental health care system including applicable mental health provincial legislation and related regulations
- Demonstrated ability to foster both a patient centered culture and patient safety culture.
- Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Superior ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences from patient and family partners, healthcare practitioners and leaders, special interest groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with members of the leadership team, physicians and inter-professional team, colleagues, and the general public.
- Participates in the development, administration and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets; conducts variance analysis and develops recovery plans as appropriate, ensures expenditures, within areas of accountability, are consistent with the program’s operating objectives.
- Leads, within areas of accountability, recruitment/hiring, staff development, performance management/review, attendance/disability management, coaching/mentoring, health and safety, collective agreement administration, monitors for compliance with hospital and program policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
- Analyzes and assesses short and long-term program staffing requirements within areas of accountability; recommends appropriate complement and mix of nursing, allied health and support staff to meet service demand and needs of the inpatient populations served.
- Participates in the review, development, administration and maintenance program and hospital policies and procedures.
- Fosters the ongoing integration of the BGH Mission, Vison and Values within program service delivery.
- Creates a high quality care and work environment that encourages open and transparent interprofessional collaboration and communication where the opinions and contributions of all team members are valued.
- Participates in the integrated risk management program, e.g., completes HIROC self-assessment checklists relevant to areas of accountability, taking appropriate corrective action(s) as required, follows up on events identified through the incident reporting process, contributes to the development of risk mitigation strategies.
- Investigates and identifies root causes and contributing factors to patient safety incidents; recommends and initiates corrective actions.
