Overview

Dillon’s Electrical Discipline is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. The successful candidate can be based out of our Kingston, ON Office. We offer flexible work hours to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities
  • Provide full spectrum of project delivery, from requirement gathering, preliminary design, full design, construction, site reviews, commissioning, and troubleshooting for environmental, industrial, manufacturing, commercial, municipal, institutional and infrastructure projects.
  • Design and draft electrical systems including power distribution (Low and Medium Voltage), Motor Control, lighting systems, Instrumentation and Control, Emergency Power generation, Fire alarm and Security systems, Communications systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents, and technical reports.
  • Perform testing and verification of electrical systems; assist with site investigations/reviews for renovation projects and create deficiency reports or determine existing site conditions during design.
  • Assist with construction administration tasks (shop drawing review, responses to RFIs, issuing contemplated change orders).
  • Review safe work practices and perform risk assessments; collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Coordinate with utilities, equipment suppliers, contractors, and clients; peer review to ensure design meets standards (Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, UL, National Building Codes, NFPA, and others).
  • Support business development activities including client need research, proposal preparation, and presentations; potential business travel to other Dillon offices.
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing professional development; mentor junior staff and contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through professional associations.
Qualifications
  • A degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Licensed to practice as a professional engineer or eligible to be licensed within six months.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience.
Experience
  • Proven experience in the design of Low and Medium Voltage Electrical Systems, including:
  • Electrical equipment layout, one-line diagrams and engineering studies, power design, instrumentation and control, and related design calculations (load, voltage drop, sizing, bus/cable tray support, conduit and wire sizing).
  • Emergency power generator sizing, grounding and bonding, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination; SCADA, overhead/underground electrical design, motor control, lighting design and calculations, and communications/security/fire alarm design.
  • Experience in project specifications, ensuring designs meet standards and constructability; coordinating with utilities for connection of power and communications lines; maintaining complete project documentation and as-built data; leading multidisciplinary teams on multi-project efforts; and knowledge of electrical power distribution and protection is a plus.
  • Proficiency providing technical leadership and strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
