Schlegel Urban Developments Corp. is a mid-sized Kitchener based real estate development and management company. We are looking for that right individual who is looking to combine their passion for accounting with an interest for real estate, development and property management to join our growing and highly effective accounting team.
Accounting Manager
Reporting directly to the Controller, in this new role, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the following:
Develop, review and update policies and procedures for accounting cycleManage tenant files and ensure lease details accurately accounted for in accordance with accounting standardsManage annual operating cost reconciliation process with tenantsReview tenant ledgers to ensure charges/recoveries/deposits accurately postedRecord routine transactions (mortgage payments, recurring journal entries, amortization etc.)Support the Controller with month end and year end closing procedures including balance sheet reconciliationsSupport the Controller with construction financing draws for future construction and land development projectsSupport the Controller with monthly filings and payments for EHT, HST, WSIB, Corporate tax instalmentsReview general ledger monthly for accuracy and variance from budget and investigate variances for reasonablenessSupport the Controller with annual budgeting processPrepare various accounting reports and analysis as requiredSupport VP Leasing & Commercial Real Estate and property management staff in financial accounting mattersSupport reporting to external parties (banks, MPAC, CRA etc.)Provide guidance and leadership to accounts receivable/accounts payable staffExperience and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in an accounting management roleCPA designation considered an assetProficient in Microsoft ExcelExperience with Yardi products an asset, but not required, on-site training will be availableProperty management experience an assetIndependent self-starter that enjoys a hands-on small team environmentExcels at demonstrating attention to detail and achieving accuracy while adhering to deadlines on a consistent basisExcellent communication and customer service skills, including tact, diplomacy and judgement to problem solve independently and in collaboration with other team membersSalary
